An Abundance of Refugee Talent in Uganda

If you look at Talent Beyond Boundaries’ (TBB) Talent Catalog snapshot, you’ll see that skilled refugees can be found in every part of the world that hosts them. TBB started in the Middle East in response to the Syrian refugee crisis, compiling ample data on the skills and backgrounds of tens of thousands of refugees in Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

As the global refugee protection crisis persists and grows, TBB’s focus has broadened. With new partners and staff in countries like Indonesia, India, Mexico, Peru, and Uganda, TBB is committed to ensuring that refugees worldwide have access to labor mobility pathways and that employers have access to the CVs of refugees with skills, no matter where they’re located.

In pursuit of this goal, members of the TBB team traveled to Uganda in late April to engage directly with refugee talent, share information about refugee labor mobility, and assist refugees in Uganda to register their skills.

Alongside our partners at Finn Church Aid and UNHCR, with help from the Norwegian Refugee Council and the International Rescue Committee, we introduced over 400 refugees to opportunities to relocate abroad for work. We helped them register their skills in TBB’s Talent Catalog over one week. An additional 200+ candidates with existing Talent Catalog registrations received one-on-one support to strengthen their CVs.
