This role is for a Special Education Teacher in an alternative school setting, focusing on students with special needs. The teacher must assess student progress, implement behavioral interventions, and support at-risk students, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Experience with at-risk students is essential for providing the necessary support for their success.

Responsibilities:

  • Select, plan, and deliver instructional activities that meet IEP and IFSP goals, aligning with state standards.

  • Monitor student progress according to IEP/IFSP goals, adjust instruction as needed, and regularly report progress to parents.

  • Coordinate curriculum and teaching procedures with general and special education staff.

  • Attend and participate in activities such as open houses, parent-teacher conferences, and home visits.

  • Supervise students according to the established building schedule and collaborate with support staff and administration on student concerns.

  • Encourage students to set and maintain classroom behavior standards.

  • Guide the learning process toward achieving curriculum goals.

  • Employ various instructional techniques and media suitable for the physical setting and student needs.

  • Implement the district's educational philosophy and instructional goals through teaching and actions.

  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and district policies

  • Assist in implementing policies and rules governing student conduct, develop classroom behavior rules, maintain order, and attend staff meetings and committees as required.

  • Administer and interpret diagnostic assessment tools, behavioral observations, and reports accurately, ensuring alignment with your area of expertise.

  • Manage cases for students with disabilities, coordinating the development of IEP/IFSP plans, positive behavior support plans, and assessments for determining special education eligibility.

Qualifications:

  • Upper-Intermediate proficiency in English (5.5-6 IELTS level)

  • A bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, Child Development, or Social Work is required.

  • Previous experience as a special education teacher or shadow teacher.

  • Applied understanding of due process requirements and the psychology of disability, human growth, and development.

  • Applied understanding of curriculum development and applied learning theories.

  • Ability to create a conducive learning environment appropriate to students' maturity and interests, with ongoing supervision.

  • Effective problem solving, decision making, and stress tolerance skills.

  • Ability to adapt to changing work environments, priorities, and organizational needs.

  • Ability to work and lead collaboratively with staff from other agencies in concurrent service delivery.

  • Ability to implement procedures addressing each student’s mental and physical health needs.

  • Ability to write clear assessment summaries, technically adequate IEPs, and conduct IEP meetings.

  • Ability to complete student assessments and implement various instructional strategies suitable for each student.

  • Ability to implement multiple instructional and behavioral strategies.

  • Ability to effectively supervise class structures and promote social responsibility, conflict mediation, and leadership.

  • Provide consultation to general education teachers and collaborate with parents and staff on service delivery, staying professionally current and participating in site-based decision teams.
