#ItTakesACommunity

Talent Beyond Boundaries is joining a new campaign, It Takes A Community, to celebrate how all people, regardless of where they are born, contribute to making our communities feel like home, especially in light of COVID-19.

By highlighting how migrants and refugees and fellow community members are working together to make the places we live and work more productive, innovative, safe and welcoming, we can challenge misinformation about migration and build more inclusive communities.

Public attitudes towards migration and migrants have become deeply polarized on an international scale, fueled in part through the spread of misinformation. It Takes a Community is a campaign initiated by a Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) working group aiming to promote a balanced and evidence-based public narrative on migration. The group is co-chaired by the Government of Canada, the Government of Ecuador and the GFMD Mayors Mechanism. Talent Beyond Boundaries is represented on the working group, by Gary Slaiman our pro bono Corporate Outreach Advisor. The campaign is supported by the International Organization for Migration.

Why are we joining the It Takes A Community campaign?

Talent Beyond Boundaries has a front row seat to the inspiring and transformative changes that happen when we come together to welcome refugees into workplaces and communities. The Alumni of our program - who now live and work in safe countries amongst a network of friends and colleagues - are the living proof of this transformation.

We want this campaign to be a launch pad for sharing these positive stories. Our business partners (really all our partners) are uniquely positioned to answer the question “It takes a community...”

It takes a community to…

  • Fill critical skill gaps responding to Covid (like like Mokhles, who helps to build oxygen generators to supply industrial and medical facilities across Canada)

  • Manufacture critical goods (like Anas who works with Davert Tools in Niagara Falls)

  • Make workplaces and communities more diverse and strong, and so much more!

We’ll be sharing these stories over the coming months and we encourage you to learn more and support the campaign using #ItTakesACommunity
