The employer is seeking a skilled teacher with experience in special education to provide structured learning experiences for children/adolescents with behavioral, emotional, or mental health disabilities. The primary responsibility is to teach subject matter and/or skills that lead the students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation.
Responsibilities:
Assists with lesson plan implementation in coordination with special education teachers
Monitors and maintains assigned milieu (unit environments, the after-school program, etc.) to ensure expectations, structure, and safety
In collaboration with the classroom teacher, maintain regular, professional communication with students’ parents through phone calls, emails, and/or mailing documentation
Applies theory and practice of TCI throughout all interactions
Dispenses and documents all medication distribution
Educates and monitors residents on daily living skills
Assists with planning & implementing therapeutic activities
Maintains compliance with all required trainings each year and the benchmark hours set for each month
Monitors and evaluates the unit and school for potential risk, including physical environment
Is diligent in notifying leadership of potential areas of risk and takes initiative to problem-solve
Qualifications
Upper-intermediate communication skills in English, both written and oral
Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, child psychology or related field preferred; minimum of 48 college credits or a paraprofessional certificate with some relevant experience required.
At least three (3) references that demonstrate past educational and/or employment experience.
Successful completion of core development orientation program within two months of start of employment.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Valid PA driver’s license or ability to obtain such license, with proof of auto insurance coverage.
PA Act 33/34 clearances and FBI clearance
Pre-employment physical from a licensed physician (after conditional job offer) verifying person has no communicable diseases or physical conditions which might endanger the health and safety of children or prevent the person from performing essential job responsibilities.
This is a twelve (12) month position. Will work 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM or 7:30 AM - 3:30 when scheduled to cover the school day. Will work 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM when scheduled to work the school day and the after-school program. Will work rotating shifts of daylight, nights, and/or weekends when school is not in session.
