Position Description
The Production Engineer I – Production Tools – develops and maintains the editorial, element ingest, media generation and delivery pipeline for VFX production, and ensures it is running smoothly and efficiently. The Production Engineer I will be active in both development projects and artist support.
As part of the Production Tools Engineering Team, the Production Engineer I creates tools and defines the workflows for our partner’s media management pipeline. This includes the tools used to ingest and track plates and reference materials from on set, the generation and management of media used for both internal and client reviews, as well as the tools to process and track the delivery of final frames and associated media to their clients.
Responsibilities
Assist in the development of workflow and tools, under the guidance of a project lead
Create new tools and workflows
Receive general instructions on work and new assignments
Advises/assist other engineers with maintenance and bug fixing of existing tools
Serve as a knowledge resource for workflow and tools used in production
Provide assistance to local productions to keep the pipeline running smoothly
Work with artists and productions to develop efficient workflows and assisting tools
Qualifications
Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral
Bachelor’s degree in Computing Science or Graphics discipline, OR equivalent professional experience
Proven experience in the visual effects or computer animation industries
A clear and concise communicator: ability to keep end users informed of progress and managers informed of requests
Nice to have, but not required:
Experience with OpenColorIO and OpenImageIO APIs
Experience developing with C++
Experience with database technologies such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB or Redis
Experience developing against and/or deploying Amazon Web Services
VFX, Feature Animation or Episodic production experience
