Situ and TBB’s Shared Mission to Support Displaced Talent Settle Safely in the UK
Building an Ecosystem
Talent Beyond Boundaries (TBB) recognizes the importance of building partnerships with like-minded organizations to create a world where displaced people can use their skills to build better futures. Collaborations with the private, public, and third sectors have enabled displaced talent mobility to scale, establishing a growing ecosystem of allies.
In 2021, TBB’s UK team attended the Forum of Expatriate Management (FEM), an annual conference that shares best practices and encourages dialogue among the global mobility community. TBB met Situ, one of the UK’s leading serviced accommodation agencies, during this event. Established in 2008 and active in over 140 countries, Situ specializes in securing safe accommodation for staff relocating internationally or traveling for business. Realizing that TBB and Situ shared the goal of ensuring displaced people could relocate for work and feel secure, a partnership emerged.
Putting Partnership into Practice
A few months later, TBB welcomed a new cohort of displaced nurses relocating from Lebanon to the UK to work for HCA Healthcare. One nurse, still breastfeeding her baby, faced complications due to Lebanon's deepening economic crisis, which caused shortages of baby formula. Situ stepped in, providing a fully serviced apartment to the family for one month pro bono and another two months at a discounted rate. This generosity allowed the family to stay together, easing their transition to life in the UK.
Fast Forward
By 2024, TBB and Situ’s partnership had grown as both organizations scaled operations in new countries. TBB supports employers in finding talent, while Situ secures safe, temporary accommodation. For instance, Situ helped Good Humans, an artwork rollout agency in London, find accommodation for Karim, a Syrian refugee in Jordan. This assistance made a significant difference in Karim’s settlement and integration journey. “Knowing that I would have safe accommodation waiting for me in London was a huge relief,” Karim said.
Another Palestinian refugee experienced reduced stress when relocating to Belfast to work for Vialto, thanks to the fully serviced accommodation Situ secured. “The accommodation provided was essential in helping me to settle. The location in the city center was perfect, giving me a sense of comfort when it was really needed,” he shared.
"It was truly rewarding to be a small part of these guys' journeys, knowing the challenges they had overcome. Ensuring they had a safe, comfortable "home away from home" meant so much to me, as it helped them feel ready and supported to start their new jobs and lives," said Hannah Trigg, Senior Business Development Manager at SITU.
TBB is grateful for Situ’s support and collaboration in making displaced talent mobility possible. TBB looks forward to continuing its partnership with Situ and other allies to help more displaced people relocate safely for employment opportunities and settle in their new communities.
